About Tzofim Friendship Caravan
The Friendship Caravan consists of four traveling groups, each of which has five male and five female 17-year-old Tzofim (Israel Scouts). They crisscross North America each summer as emissaries, sharing their lives in Israel through song, dance and story. Participants are chosen after undergoing an extensive auditioning and interviewing process, ensuring that above all, they are true representatives of Israeli culture and spirit. Tthe Tzofim Friendship Caravan reaches 35 states, including 250 camps, community centers, churches, senior homes and schools, performing for an audience totaling nearly 100,000 people.
The Tzofim Movement is the only non-political and non-sectarian youth movement in Israel. Everyone in the Tzofim Summer Delegation has gone through extensive interviews and a rigorous selection process. Each Delegate must exhibit leadership capabilities, a high level of scouting and extensive knowledge of Israeli and Jewish history. Fluency in English and strong communicative skills are additional requirements for Delegation members, as well as an intense love for the land and people of Israel and a desire to share this passion with North Americans. |

A Social Action Committee project
Bingo! at Manor Care Health Services
(across from St. Elizabeth's at 1335 S. Oneida) |
HCR Manor Care provides post-hospital care for medically complex patients, and is recognized for its rehabilitation therapy program. Since patients have a lot of time on their hands, they truly appreciate our coming once a month to run bingo games. Sometimes we have several players who need assistance playing, so we rarely have "too many" volunteers -- each and every volunteer makes a huge difference in the experience that we're able to provide.
Volunteers are asked to arrive ~ 9:15 so that we're ready to start the games at 9:30. Games will end ~ 10:30 and we're all out of there by 10:45. It's a quick, but really fun , way to volunteer and serve the community.
Interested? Call Stu Dolnick @ 830-6716.
Future dates: September 5, October 10, November 14, December 12 |

ABOUT THIS BOOK
“A tender and satisfying novel set in a time and a place lost forever, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet gives us a glimpse of the damage that is caused by war--not the sweeping damage of the battlefield, but the cold, cruel damage to the hearts and humanity of individual people. Especially relevant in today's world, this is a beautifully written book that will make you think. And, more importantly, it will make you feel ."
-- Garth Stein , New York Times bestselling author of The Art of Racing in the Rain
“Jamie Ford's first novel explores the age-old conflicts between father and son, the beauty and sadness of what happened to Japanese Americans in the Seattle area during World War II, and the depths and longing of deep-heart love. An impressive, bitter, and sweet debut.”
-- Lisa See , bestselling author of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan
