Sisterhood

Sisterhood is the Ladies Auxiliary of the Moses Montefiore Congregation. Our purpose is to support the Religious School, maintain the Social Center, and to help in all Congregational activities.

Sisterhood warmly welcomes all new members to join our organization. We aid in charitable work in the community and wherever else help is needed to aid our fellow Jews.  We also encourage attendance at all religious services and schedule regular hostesses for the Friday night Oneg Shabbats.

Meetings are normally scheduled monthly and Shabbat dinners are held twice a year.  Activities include, but are not limited to, an annual Break the Fast meal at the conclusion of the Yom Kippur services, a Purim carnival, and an annual art auction.  Sisterhood contributes monetarily to the Religious School, the United Jewish Appeal, Synagogue and Rabbinical funds, and general congregational expenses.

The Fox Valley Wisconsin Chapter of Hadassah for the Great Plains Region meets the third Thursday of every month for Book Club in members' homes, with adjustments made for holidays.  Our annual activities include an Art Auction with Sisterhood, Donor letter and yearbook.  Hadassah's Mission Statement Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, is a volunteer women's organization, whose members are motivated and inspired to strengthen their partnership with Israel, ensure Jewish continuity, and realize their potential as a dynamic force in American society.

Founded in 1912, Hadassah retains the passion and timeless values of its founder, Henrietta Szold, Jewish scholar and activist, who was dedicated to Judaism, Zionism and the American ideal.  Committed to the centrality of Israel on the renaissance of the Jewish people in its historic homeland, Hadassah promotes the unity of the Jewish people.  In Israel, Hadassah initiates and supports pace-setting health care, education and youth institutions, and land development to meet the country's changing needs.  In the United States, Hadassah enhances the quality of  American Jewish life through its education and Zionist youth programs, promotes health awareness, and provides personal enrichment and growth for its members. Men's Club

The primary objective of the Moses Montefiore Congregation Men's Club is to provide fun social interaction for our adult male members, and other men from the Fox Cities Jewish Community.  While our events are open to all members, we tend to focus on items of interest to the men in the congregation.  On an as-needed basis, we also occasionally do useful projects, such as erecting the sukkah or organizing a Men's Club-led Friday night service.  But we are unapologetic about our social focus because it is an important element of building community.

The club was re-started in 1994 because it was felt that the congregation needed more ways to encourage social interaction among members.  The founding members were already overloaded with Synagogue-related administrative duties, so we enacted a single rule which has remained in a effect since 1994.  The rule is: “we have no by-laws, no meeting minutes, no dues, no formal officers and no rules other than this one”.

Examples of recent events include bowling, Timber Rattlers baseball, Packers football (on TV) and breakfast gatherings.  Upcoming events are posted on the Synagogue calendar.

The unofficial co-presidents of the Men's Club are Jerry Zabronsky and Glenn Karlov.  For more information about  the Men's club, call (920) 733-1848 and leave a message for Jerry or Glenn; or send Jerry an e-mail at mmcapl@mosesmontefioresynagogue.org .
